For their first season at SunTrust Park, the Braves have an interesting mix of veteran leadership and promising young talent as they look to contend in the NL East against the Washington Nationals and New York Mets. Atlanta will be led offensively by Freddie Freeman, who hit a career-high 34 homers in 2016 and will look to hit more over the standout 16-foot right-field fence and into the Chop House party decks. Twenty-three year-old shortstop Dansby Swanson, the No. 1 overall pick from 2015, will play his first full season in the majors after showing plenty of promise in his short stint last year.
On the mound, veteran newcomers Bartolo Colon, R.A. Dickey and Jaime Garcia will quickly become fan favorites as they anchor a Braves’ starting rotation with holdover Julio Teheran. The quartet will try to get leads into the hands of flame-throwing relievers Mauricio Cabrera and Arodys Vizcaino, who will serve as set-up men for closer Jim Johnson.
