The Pittsburgh Penguins say forward Ruslan Fedotenko will miss four to six weeks with a broken right hand. Fedotenko injured his hand less than two minutes into Tuesday night's game against the Atlanta Thrashers in a one-punch fight against former Penguins player Colby Armstrong. Fedotenko decked Armstrong with the punch, although Fedotenko rarely fights.

A teammate said Thursday of Penguins center Jordan Staal, "He's always been mature, but he's more comfortable in the room this year."
How long Staal remains in the Penguins' dressing room is no more or less certain with his agreeing to a four-year extension worth $16 million.
That deal, announced Thursday by general manager Ray Shero before the Penguins played the Nashville Predators at Sommet Center, could keep Staal in Pittsburgh—as the clear No. 3 center behind Sidney Crosby and Evgeni Malkin—through the 2012-13 season.
Staal's extension, which begins next season, does not include a no-movement clause and will allow him to become the youngest unrestricted free agent in NHL history upon its expiration.
