Lightning Team Report
(Mon, 22 Mar 2010 01:55:41 PDT)
Tampa Bay can bemoan the inconsistent work of goaltenders Mike Smith and Antero Niittymaki or the lack of secondary scoring for the team's struggles. But the biggest concern lies within the 15-foot radius of the net itself.
As the Lightning enter Tuesday's home game against Carolina with a five-game losing streak and just two wins in the last 14 games, the common theme has been the same—Tampa Bay struggles to clear out the front of its own net. And it's been the same for most of the season.
In the team's most recent loss, 5-2 at Florida, the Panthers scored three times from the top of the crease. David Booth camped out in front of Smith for a tap-in, Cory Stillman took advantage of a giveaway to lift a backhander over Smith as he skated across the crease, and Stephen...

Stephen Weiss and Radek Dvorak added third-period goals, and Scott Clemmensen made 29 saves for Florida.
