Flyers Team Report
(Fri, 09 Jan 2009 03:13:10 PST)
The Flyers are facing some thorny roster decisions when Daniel Briere and his $6.5 million salary return next week.
To begin making room, Flyers general manager Paul Holmgren placed defenseman Lasse Kukkonen on waivers Thursday to clear $875,000 and said he might return 18-year-old rookie defenseman Luca Sbisa to his junior team in Lethbridge, Alberta, to free another $875,000 for Briere's return.
The Flyers are likely to play one more game—Saturday at home against Toronto—before getting Briere back in the lineup. By then Sbisa could be back in juniors.
"We would have to consider that one of the options," Holmgren said. "The fact of the matter is, in order to get one of our players back in the lineup we have to do something.
