Rookie goalie Steve Mason has shown the Columbus Blue Jackets that he is ready for the NHL. Now he has a chance to prove it on a much bigger stage. Mason has taken the Blue Jackets' starting job away from injured Pascal Leclaire and run with it. In his first 23 games this season, Mason went 13-9-1 with five shutouts and posted a stellar 1.82 goals-against average.

Just when the Blue Jackets thought their injury woes couldn't get worse, left wing Rick Nash—their captain and leading scorer—went down with a leg injury in Tuesday's loss in Detroit.

The club would not define Nash's injury or reveal its severity. But Nash, who got tangled up with Red Wings defenseman Brian Rafalski and slammed legs-first into the boards, did not return after the first period.

The Blue Jackets' top three scorers—Nash, Kristian Huselius and Derick Brassard—are all injured. Brassard is out for the season after having shoulder surgery.

Meanwhile, forwards Jason Chimera, Raffi Torres and Jiri Novotny, and defenseman Rostislav Klesla also are out.

Columbus Blue Jackets goalie Pascal Leclaire was placed on injured reserve Thursday because of a lower-body injury. He's expected to miss at least a week. The club added goalie Dan LaCosta on an emergency recall from Syracuse of the AHL.
