Avalanche Team Report

The Avalanche offense, in hibernation for much of the season, is beginning to emerge.

A 10-goal outburst over two games has resulted in back-to-back wins for the first time since mid-November and enabled the Avalanche to reach the .500 mark (12-12-0) for the first time in more than two weeks heading into Thursday's game at Nashville.

"With a good road trip here we can get back in the playoff mix, where I think we belong," coach Tony Granato said. "I thought we played extremely well lately and hadn't been rewarded, but if we stuck with it, we'd get some good results.

"It takes some time sometimes to get rewarded for your efforts."

A number of key players are starting to break out of prolonged slumps.

The Colorado Avalanche called up Brian Willsie from its AHL affiliate on Saturday and placed center Ben Guite on injured reserve because of a rib injury. Willsie signed as a free agent with the Avs in July after playing with the Washington Capitals and Los Angeles Kings. Willsie played his first five NHL seasons with Avs, who drafted him in 1996.
