Green Bay Packers tight end Spencer Havner has been fined $5,000 for a late hit out of bounds during last week's 17-7 victory over the Dallas Cowboys. Havner was flagged for a 15-yard penalty with 11:21 left in the first half for shoving defensive end Marcus Spears in the Cowboys' bench area at Lambeau Field.
Packers offensive line in flux
(Fri, 20 Nov 2009 15:18:49 PST)
The decision was made during the offseason by Green Bay Packers coach Mike McCarthy, who'd grown tired of watching what he called "musical chairs" being played on his offensive line for the previous three seasons. After starting five different line combinations in 2006, six in 2007 and five last season, McCarthy and his staff settled on their starting five after just two preseason...

Packers Team Report
(Thu, 19 Nov 2009 19:06:53 PST)
Some kind of luxury the Packers have at linebacker.
Six of the nine 'backers on their roster—excluding Spencer Havner, who's emerged as Mr. Touchdown in a full-time conversion to tight end this season—are on the injury report this week for the game against the San Francisco 49ers on Sunday at Lambeau Field.
No problem for a position group that is deep, talented and seems to be hitting its stride as the impactful showpiece of the 3-4 defense molded by coordinator Dom Capers.
"They have a good scheme," quarterback Tony Romo attested after his Dallas Cowboys were drummed 17-7 by Green Bay last Sunday in a game its players felt they had to win to ease the sting of a 4-4 start to the season.
"They throw a lot of guys around, and they have good...

Kampman on concussion: cautious approach is best
(Thu, 19 Nov 2009 15:15:48 PST)
Aaron Kampman says the Green Bay training staff won't need to keep a sharp eye on him when he returns to the field for Sunday's game against the San Francisco 49ers. If he learned anything after playing through a concussion, it's that a cautious approach is the best one to head injuries. "The great thing about the medical staff here is they're always going to err on the side of...

Packers welcome back Kampman, Finley, Tauscher
(Wed, 18 Nov 2009 18:15:09 PST)
It was the same, frustrating drill for Green Bay Packers tight end Jermichael Finley every day last week: a member of the team's medical staff would fiddle with his knee a little bit, then shake his head in disapproval. He wasn't going to practice. It felt even worse, Finley said, during warmups for Sunday's critical game against Dallas.
Packers' Rodgers, 49ers' Smith taking hits
(Wed, 18 Nov 2009 15:17:39 PST)
Alex Smith and Aaron Rodgers spend a lot of time on their backsides, each having taken his share of hits this season. Rodgers, Green Bay's quarterback, has been sacked 41 times. For San Francisco's Smith, it's been 10 sacks in the 3 1/2 games he's played since taking over from Shaun Hill last month.

In a miserable tailspin one week, solid playoff contenders the next. That's life in the NFL for the Green Bay Packers, who might have saved their season with Sunday's 17-7 victory over the Dallas Cowboys. After snapping a two-game losing streak, the Packers (5-4) were feeling better about themselves Monday.
