Steve Slaton wanted the ball more. So the rookie marched up to Houston coach Gary Kubiak at halftime, grabbed him by the shirt and told him so. Kubiak listened and Slaton responded with a pair of fourth-quarter touchdowns to lead the Texans to a 30-17 win over slumping Jacksonville in their Monday Night Football debut.
CB Rashean Mathis injured against Texans

Jaguars cornerback Rashean Mathis sprained his right knee Monday night against the Houston Texans. Jacksonville officials said Mathis, who had an interception in the first quarter, would not return. Mathis leads the team with four interceptions this season. He also had three tackles against the Texans.
Jaguar shooting suspect attends pretrial hearing

A man accused of shooting Jacksonville Jaguars offensive lineman Richard Collier 14 times appeared Monday at a pretrial hearing, only to have another pretrial hearing set next week. At the brief hearing, Assistant Public Defender Ann Finnell, who is representing Tyrone Romaroo Hartsfied, asked for a hearing on a motion she had filed seeking addresses of Collier and several other witnesses.

Schaub active, Rosenfels starts for Texans

Matt Schaub was active for the Houston Texans on Monday night, but backup quarterback Sage Rosenfels was the starter against Jacksonville. Schaub has missed the last three games with a left knee injury. He returned to practice last week and coach Gary Kubiak said he would consider playing Schaub against Jacksonville.

The Jaguars are now trying to prove they haven't quit and that coach Jack Del Rio hasn't lost the team.
When the Jaguars fell to 4-7 after a 30-12 loss to the Minnesota Vikings last Sunday, there was much debate about whether the Jaguars quit.
"That's never going to be an issue in Jacksonville. I don't see that in our guys," said Del Rio in rejecting that notion.
And he rejected the comments by the national TV pundits that he's lost the team.
"Evidently, they watch three or four highlights on TV and form an opinion because they can't be studying it to make comments like that. They've got to fill the air space, hey do the best they can with the information they have.
Jaguars WR misses practice after friend killed

Jacksonville Jaguars receiver Mike Walker missed practice Friday, hours after a friend was fatally stabbed inside an Orlando nightclub. Jacksonville coach Jack Del Rio said in a statement that "Mike came to me this morning prior to meetings to tell me that he was visiting friends in Orlando. He explained that a friend was stabbed and died.
