Broncos Team Report
(Tue, 02 Dec 2008 04:19:51 PST)
As the weather gets poor, the Broncos know they have a quarterback who is equipped to handle it.
Quarterback Jay Cutler is proving to be a good bad-weather passer. He has played well before in his career in rain, cold and snow, but never better than he did in steady rain at Giants Stadium against the Jets. Cutler played as if there weren't a cloud in the sky, completing 27 of 43 passes for 357 yards and a pair of touchdowns.
"Some guys can throw it in the rain and other guys can't," coach Mike Shanahan said. "Jay is one of those guys that embraces the rain."
Cutler is from Santa Claus, Ind., so he grew up in a climate that could turn nasty in winter. Denver has its share of snowy days in December and January—when it appears the Broncos will be hosting at...

Despite troubles, Broncos could get playoff spot
(Mon, 01 Dec 2008 18:08:58 PST)
To quote Jim Mora, "Playoffs?!" Yes, playoffs. The Denver Broncos lead the league in injuries and inexperience, and this ragtag bunch of backups, rookies and castoffs could be among the first in the NFL to clinch a spot in the postseason this weekend. If San Diego loses to Oakland on Thursday night and Denver beats Kansas City on Sunday, the banged-up Broncos, who have a dozen players on injured...

Cutler, Hillis lead Broncos past Jets 34-17
(Sun, 30 Nov 2008 18:47:15 PST)
The weather conditions were perfect, as far as Jay Cutler was concerned. Appearing hardly bothered by the steady rain and wind that whipped through the Meadowlands, Cutler threw for 357 yards and two touchdowns to lead the Denver Broncos to a 34-17 victory over the New York Jets on Sunday. "He embraced throwing in the rain," Denver coach Mike Shanahan said.
Burress episode renews safety questions for NFL
(Sun, 30 Nov 2008 18:14:32 PST)
New York Giants receiver Amani Toomer used to snicker and scoff when he'd notice pro athletes traipsing around town with personal bodyguards. He isn't laughing now. Not after hearing about various violent episodes involving NFL players, the latest being when teammate Plaxico Burress accidentally shot himself in the thigh at a New York nightclub.
Broncos' Royal active; Jets' Harris, Smith out
(Sun, 30 Nov 2008 12:46:47 PST)
Denver rookie wide receiver Eddie Royal was active for the Broncos' game Sunday against the New York Jets despite being limited in practice with a toe injury. Royal, who leads NFL rookies with 58 catches, was listed as questionable on the team's injury report after participating in practice on a limited basis Thursday and Friday.
Cutler, Favre meet in matchup of rifle-armed QBs
(Sat, 29 Nov 2008 21:01:14 PST)
The eye-popping strength in Jay Cutler's right arm has earned him lots of flattering comparisons, as well as lofty expectations. "He's very talented," Denver Broncos coach Mike Shanahan said. "He has a great future. He has everything that you look for in a quarterback. He's just getting better every game." Cutler also doesn't lack confidence.

In 42 career games, including three starts, Pinnock has 18 rushes for 56 yards, four receptions for 31 yards and three kickoff returns for 74 yards.

Broncs new kicker Prater falls into midseason funk
(Tue, 25 Nov 2008 07:41:20 PST)
Matt Prater's honeymoon is over. Nobody in Denver was missing Jason Elam when the Broncos' new kicker made 13 of his first 14 field goal attempts, including a couple of astonishing kicks that would have been good from 70 yards. Now that he's fallen into a funk with five misses in his last four games, Prater finds himself the object of fans' scorn, his seething quarterback's, ahem, words of...

Despite how horrible Detroit is this season, the Lions will find a way to pull off a victory.
Bumbling Broncos sitting atop woeful AFC West
(Mon, 24 Nov 2008 16:49:31 PST)
The Denver Broncos are mired in an ugly epidemic of injuries, interceptions and inconsistency. In this bizarre season, though, they're also sitting pretty atop the woeful AFC West. At 6-5, they're two games ahead of scuffling San Diego and are on pace to do something they've never done in their history: maintain sole possession of their division from wire to wire.

(Sat, 22 Nov 2008 13:46:42 PST)
The Denver Broncos waived running back Alex Haynes and elevated rookie safety Josh Barrett from their practice squad on Saturday. Barrett played at Arizona State and was picked in the seventh round of this year's draft. He ranked fourth with 11 tackles and two special teams stops in four preseason games for Denver.
Cutler tackles diabetes, Elway's legacy head-on
(Fri, 21 Nov 2008 21:02:11 PST)
Jay Cutler is refusing to be sacked by diabetes or John Elway's legacy. The Broncos' third-year pro is taking both challenges head-on. He's on pace to set a franchise record with more than 4,500 yards passing and also end Denver's two-year playoff drought even though the team is tormented by injuries that have sent 11 players to IR and five more starters to the sideline.
Broncos' Marshall among league leaders in catches
(Fri, 21 Nov 2008 15:38:58 PST)
Broncos receiver Brandon Marshall cowers from no cornerback. Still, he's quite wary of Oakland's Nnamdi Asomugha. The sixth-year defensive back is one of the closest equivalents to Champ Bailey, arguably the best in the business. "You've got to love this type of challenge," said Marshall, whose team will host the Raiders on Sunday.

Broncos' Hillis alive with sound of country music
(Fri, 21 Nov 2008 00:47:32 PST)
With a Southern twang, a hankering for Hank Williams and exotic cowboy boots, Peyton Hillis isn't your average starting NFL tailback. "I'm definitely different than a lot of other people," the Denver Broncos rookie said. "I can be me and who I am." Just who is Hillis? He was the lead blocker for Darren McFadden and Felix Jones at the University of Arkansas, the afterthought in the Razorbacks'...
