The NBA approved a request by the injury-plagued Warriors to exceed the roster limit of 15 Friday, and general manager Larry Riley dipped into the NBA Developmental League to grab one of its stars from last season, the 6-foot-11, 240-pound Hunter.
"I'd never see him before," Warriors coach Don Nelson admitted. "I'd never met him."
Nor had Hunter ever played in an NBA regular-season game.
Nonetheless, the Michigan product got pressed into immediate duty for the desperate Warriors, going head-to-head with Oden for most of his 14 minutes and holding his own, helping Golden State defeat the Trail Blazers 108-94 in Oakland.

Playing against LeBron James and the Cleveland Cavaliers is a tough assignment anytime. For Golden State, the task was even tougher Tuesday night. The Warriors, ravaged by injuries and illness, dressed the league minimum eight players against the Cavaliers, including newly acquired guard Raja Bell, who is expected to have wrist surgery next week.
Azubuike to undergo knee surgery

Golden State Warriors swingman Kelenna Azubuike will undergo surgery to repair a torn patellar tendon in his left knee. The team says the operation will be performed Wednesday in Phoenix. Azubuike is expected to miss the remainder of the season. Azubuike injured his knee last Saturday in Milwaukee. He was averaging 13.9 points, 4.6 rebounds and 1.1 assists in nine games this season.

Warriors guard Watson tests positive for swine flu

Golden State Warriors guard C.J. Watson has tested positive for the swine flu. The team said Monday that Watson is being treated for the illness and that the team is taking precautions mandated by the league. Watson will not be with the team for the Warriors' games Tuesday at the Cleveland Cavaliers or Wednesday at the Boston Celtics.
