The Kings left Sacramento on Thursday. They'll be coming back.
The Sacramento Monarchs will not.
The Kings' sister franchise in the WNBA folded Friday after 12 years of operation and one championship. Owner Joe Maloof admitted the Kings played a role in the decision to call it quits.
"We love the Monarchs, but it's time to refocus," he told The Sacramento Bee. "Our focus is to turn the Kings around, and to do that, we have to put all our efforts and good salespeople on the Kings."
The Kings, who sold out Arco Arena for years after relocating from Kansas City/Omaha in 1991, have fallen upon hard times at the turnstiles in recent years. They ranked dead last in the NBA in home attendance last season and have risen to 28th early in 2009-10 only because the...

Kings G Kevin Martin has wrist surgery

Sacramento Kings leading scorer Kevin Martin underwent surgery on his injured left wrist. The team says Martin had the procedure to repair a hairline fracture in his left wrist on Monday at the UC Davis Medical Center. Martin will be released from the hospital later in the day. Martin is expected to miss at least eight weeks with the injury.
