TOP INDIANAPOLIS AREA ATTRACTIONS
Lucas Oil Stadium
Lucas Oil Stadium is a retractable roof sports facility currently under construction in Indianapolis. The stadium is scheduled to open in 2008, replacing the RCA Dome (completed 1983) as the home field of the NFL's Indianapolis Colts. Afterward, the RCA Dome will be demolished. In addition to the stadium's size, a new high rise hotel will be constructed.
Childrens Museum of Indianapolis
The largest children's museum in the world urges children to dig in and touch everything as they explore the physical and natural sciences, history, world cultures and the arts through exciting interactive exhibits on five floors. There's also a planetarium and a theater with children's plays and live entertainment.
Indianapolis Zoo
Home to over 2,000 animals and Indiana's largest aquarium, this 64-acre zoo has lions, elephants and other wild animals roaming through natural settings. A special petting area allows children to touch, but not feed, the tamer animals. There's also the world's largest enclosed dolphin show and a roller-coaster for all ages to enjoy.
White River State Park
As America’s only urban cultural state park, White River State Park serves as a diverse resource through the preservation of greenspace, waterways, nature, education, culture, and entertainment destinations that benefit the lifestyles of the community.
Indy Jazz Festival
Indiana Avenue is the heart of jazz history in Indianapolis. This one-mile stretch of road, just northwest of Monument Circle, the city center, once was filled with jazz clubs, bistros and theaters. These venues served as a training ground for many aspiring musicians as well as tour stops for many of the jazz greats.
Conner Prairie Living History Museum
This is not a stone building with exhibits displayed behind glass. There are no amusement rides, or coin insert exhibits. You step into a community that has been restored from the past. You are surrounded by authentically clothed interpreters who speak, work and interact with you as though you had stepped back in time about 150 years. In 1934 Eli Lilly, president of the Indiana Historical Society purchased the house and property of William and Elizabeth Conners. Lilly's goals were to save the house and to restore it to its once dignified condition. Even though historic preservation was in its infancy during the 1930s, Lilly did all he could to familiarize himself with the aims, objectives, and techniques of these earlier times. Today, the property is an open-air living history museum divided into five distinct historic areas covering 1,400 acres exploring the lives, times and values of the 1800s in America.
Easley Winery
Opening in 1974, Easley Winery is the oldest family owned winery in the state of Indiana. Depending on the year and season, Easley offers up to about 25 different wines. The winery is located in downtown Indianapolis, Indiana where we produce and bottle our wines from "Grape to Glass."
The Brickyard Indianapolis Motor Speedway and Hall of Fame Museum
The Indianapolis Motor Speedway, dating back to 1909, is one of the most famous car raceways in the world. Even if you can't join the crowd of 400,000 that comes each May to watch the celebrated Indy 500, stop by for a minibus ride on the speedway. Then visit the museum that traces race car history, including a display of restored speed demons, starting with the first Indy winner in 1911.
Indiana Medical History Museum
The museum represents the beginning of scientific psychiatry and modern medicine while the building itself is the oldest surviving pathology facility in the nation and is on the National Register of Historic Places.
The Indianapolis Indians Victory Field
Recognized as the "Best Minor League Ballpark in America" by prominent publications such as Baseball America and Sports Illustrated, Victory Field opened its gates July 11, 1996 and serves as home of the Indianapolis Indians, Triple-A affiliate of the Pittsburgh Pirates. The ballpark is also the home of the annual City, County, and High School Baseball State Championships. On July 11, 2001, Victory Field hosted the Triple-A All-Star Game.
Indianapolis Museum of Art
Impressive collection includes major works of art from all over the world plus a superb display of prints, photographs and textile art.
Conseco Fieldhouse
Conseco Fieldhouse is a sports arena in Indianapolis, Indiana, USA. It is the home of the Indiana Pacers of the National Basketball Association and the Indiana Fever of the Women's National Basketball Association. The Indiana Ice of the United States Hockey League also use Conseco Fieldhouse as their home arena for a few games a year. Additionally, other entertainment events such as concerts are frequently scheduled there. The name is a result of the naming rights to the venue being sold to Conseco, the financially-troubled financial services organization based in nearby Carmel. Conseco Fieldhouse replaced Market Square Arena as the home of the Indiana Pacers on November 6, 1999. It is notable for being the first modern "retro"-styled facility in the NBA.
National Art Museum of Sport
The nation's largest collection of sport related art hangs in the lobbies and corridors of University Place on the campus of Indiana University - Purdue University Indianapolis.
