Top-seeded Elena Dementieva defeated American Jill Craybas 6-1, 6-4 Thursday to advance to the semifinals of the Istanbul Cup. The seventh-ranked Russian will play sixth-seeded Akgul Amanmuradova of Uzbekistan, who upset third-seeded Nadia Petrova 7-6 (0), 1-6, 6-4 in the warm-up event for the French Open.
Sweden ousts Blake, US in World Team Cup (AP)

The United States lost 2-0 Thursday to Sweden, which advanced to the World Team Cup final in the Red Group. James Blake lost 5-7, 6-3, 6-0 to undefeated Robin Soderling and Thomas Johansson stopped Bobby Reynolds 6-3, 2-6, 6-3. Also in the Red Group, Argentina and the Czech Republic are tied 1-1. In the Blue Group, Russia leads Germany 1-0 and Spain leads Italy 1-0.
Davenport pulls out of French Open (AP)
Former No. 1 Lindsay Davenport has pulled out of the French Open, the only Grand Slam singles event that she hasn't won. Chan Yung-jan of Taiwan upset seventh-seeded Ai Sugiyama of Japan 6-4, 6-2 Thursday to reach the semifinals of the Strasbourg International. Chan, who has never won a singles tournament, broke Sugiyama's serve five times and saved nine break points on her own service game. She will faces No. 5 Katarina Srebotnik of Slovenia, who beat Peng Shuai of China 6-4, 7-5.
Tsonga reaches quarters in Casablanca (AP)
Australian Open finalist Jo-Wilfried Tsonga defeated Lamine Ouahab 6-3, 6-2 Wednesday to reach the quarterfinals of the Grand Prix Hassan II tournament. The top-seeded Frenchman had seven aces and broke his opponent's serve three times. It will be Tsonga's first quarterfinal since the Australian Open, where he lost to Novak Djokovic in the final.
Initial ATP Tour CEO Jordan dies at 63 (AP)
Hamilton Jordan, a political strategist behind Jimmy Carter's successful 1976 run to the White House, was later a prominent figure in the world of tennis. Jordan, who died Tuesday at his Atlanta home at 63, led the formation of the men's professional tennis circuit in the late 1980s. He served as the first chief executive of the ATP Tour when it began operations in 1990.
